Machine sewing for beginners – 4 week course – Wednesday evening
Course dates – January 2027 – 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th
Time – 7pm – 9pm
This is a 4 week course held every Wednesday in January 2027 from 7pm until 9pm.
The course will consist of an introduction to your sewing machine. You will learn to thread your machine, wind the bobbin, different stitches, trouble shooting and cleaning your machine.
We will then build your sewing skills with a number of small projects including:
Tote Bag (unlined)- you will learn how to sew straight seams, French seams and top stitching.
Materials – If you are bringing your own, you will need 1 metre of mid weight fabric. Materials can be provided for an additional £10 payable on the day by cash or card.
Book Cover – You will learn how to attach wadding, lining and elastic, and to hand sew a button securely.
Materials – If you are bringing your own, you will need 1/4 metre of mid weight woven fabric for the outside and the same for the lining and wadding, 10cm of flat elastic, button. Materials can be provided for an additional £10 payable on the day by cash or card.
Wash Bag / Cosmetic Bag (lined) – you will learn to sew straight seams, how to attach a zip and lining fabric.
Materials – If you are bringing your own, you will need 1/4 metre of mid weight fabric for the outer and lining and a 8 inch regular zip. Materials can be provided for an additional £10 payable on the day by cash or card.
Equipment:
There a limited number of sewing machines available for use, if you would like to bring your own machine, please do, don’t forget the manual too!
Tools will be provided for all student to share and use, but if you would like to bring along your own sewing kit then please do
Location: 21 Parsons Street, Banbury, OX16 5LY – Please arrive 10 minutes before your lesson for a prompt 7pm start.
